Cremades
& Calvo-Sotelo organized the 2006 edition of the Congress
of ADVOC, association of international offices, to which belong
150 firms, distributed through America, Asia, and Europe. 70 law
offices from all over the world met at the seat of Cremades &
Calvo-Sotelo in Madrid.
The Congress, sponsored by Aranzadi and Endesa, took place at
the seat of the School of Lawyers in Madrid from the 25th to the
28th of May. At the Congress, special attention was paid to the
new and numerous challenges that affront the legal profession
in a society that is becoming more globalized. In this context
the participating firms studied the possibility of increasing
their numbers of associates. The association set out to concentrate
its efforts in expansion- to Eastern Europe and Northern Africa.
ADVOC was begun 16 years ago with the purpose of giving international
coverage to those firms that lack a strong international network
but compete however, in a market that is becoming more competitive
and with more international offices. Thus, the firms have best
friend agreements and clients are sent when they demand international
services which the national firm lacks. The associated office
of ADVOC in our country is Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo, which
acted in 2006 as host to the international Congress. The organizing
committee of Madrid was presided over by the ambassador Henning
Wegner and formed by 2 partners of the Cremades firm: Javier Cremades
and Jesús Pedroche.
In addition, at the 2006 edition of ADVOC, homage was rendered
to the most significant institutions established in Madrid. For
this reason, the association was received by the Advisor to the
State, the Congress of Deputies, the School of Lawyers of Madrid
and the city council of the capital, that welcomed the participants
in the Congress during the afternoon en the Palacio de la Villa.
