Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo plays an active role in the development of the Society of Information, not only through its advisory services to its clients, but also through its participation in those proyects whose goal is the promotion of the Society of Information in our society. One example for the above is the contribution of Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo to the Madrid Forum Online for the Society of Information: FORO maR. FORO maR was created on the initiative of the Municipality of Madrid an is an encounter-point for all players involved in the Technologies of Information. FORO maR was born with an open vocation of communication and exchange of ideas and solutions, which shall eneble the development of th Society of Information and the prevention of the effects of th so-called "digital breach". The opinion of manufacturers, operators, service providers and users is being heard for this cause.

History and Objectives

The idea to create a forum was an initiative of the City Council of Madrid through the Main directorate of Technological Innovation. One of the objetives of the Forum is to position Madrid as a leader among the cities of the world in the use of new technologies, thereby promoting the development of the Society of the Information in the capital. In order to successfully undertake this ambitious project it was considered essential to have the experts in the field create a point of contact with the purpose of obtaining the greatest possible number of opinions and proposals, stimulating the public participation so that the City Council could collect data and sufficient observations that would serve as foundation to adopt the pertinent measures. Leading this agreement of cooperation between the City council and the School was the Spanish Association of Telecommunication Engineers (COIT). It was at the beginning of October of 2004 when the Madrid Forum for the Society of Information celebrated its first full session. Its objective is to open the debate on the future of the Society of Information in the capital and propose a plan for the incorporation of the citizens, public companies and administrations of the society of information, publishing its proposals in a "White Paper".

Organization

The function of institutional representation is the responsibility of the chairman Javier Cremades. The tasks of analysis and deliberation, as well as the manifestation of the criteria of the Forum are attributed to the Plenary session, comprised of outstanding professionals from diverse sectors of society. The Plenary session is specialized in the aspects that pertain more directly to the Society of the Information. Besides the mentioned bodies there also is a Technical Secretariat, in charge of the administrative functions and organization, carried out by COIT. This secretariat in addition has been the one in charge of preparating the subjects to deal with in the Plenary sessions or, in its case, to develop the proposals adopted through the specific creation of committees. For it, the COIT counts with the specific collaboration of several organizations like the law firm Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo. In the Public Forum the citizens can express opinions and comment the diverse questions raised regarding the Society of the Information and its implications.

The Forum in the media and it´s public consequence

The activities of the Madrid Online Forum have had considerable consequences in the media, fundamentally in the press – general and specialized - , radio, web pages and blogs. Just in the period between the months October and December 2004, the Forum occupied an informative space on more than forty occasions. The web page has received more than 100 thousand visits. In the Public Forum, it has placed a debate on ten proposals, including the previous version of the white book, that has been object of numerous and interesting commentaries and suggestions given by the Internet users.
