Acquisitions of the firm
He has an AB Degree from University of California,
Berkeley. He has dedicated more than 20 years to Mergers and Acquisitions
in the Telecommunications industry, both in Europe and in the United
States.
In 1983 he founded Cable Properties, Inc., a company
dedicated to the intermediation in the American markets of cable
television and cellular telephony. In 1994 he expanded, opening
offices in London and in Munich, and began his activities in the
European telecommunications market, with a particular focus on
East Germany and the developing markets of central Europe.
In 1996 he opened an office in Madrid, where he
represented various American companies in the process of obtaining
license for broadband services. Later, Thorn participated in the
formation of Worldport Communications, and he helped the company
win the second license for fixed telephony in the Netherlands;
Worldport was later sold to the British utility, Energis plc,
for more than 500 million dollars.
Beginning in 2000 Thorn collaborated with the firm
on numerous transactions from his base in Chicago. In September
of 2002, Thorn transferred to Madrid where he was made a partner
and was tasked with the creation of the Department of Mergers
and Acquisitions, of which he was named Director. After hiring
and training a staff, Thorn returned to Chicago and turned his
focus to the Latin American and Caribbean markets. Today he represents
the firm in transactions throughout the Americas.
